Summer is finally here!
June was full of Pride celebrations and events taking place across the Commonwealth and the Cape, including Lower Cape Pride, Provincetown Pride, the State House Pride Flag Raising, and the LGBTQ+ Pride Awards. These events and celebrations expressed the strength, diversity, and inclusivity of our communities while honoring the ongoing contributions of LGBTQ+ folks across Massachusetts. |

As we near the end of the 194th legislative session, there is a flurry of activity at the State House and in our district. These efforts, combined with the 250th anniversary of the founding of our nation, are making this a summer to remember with celebrations and opportunities to celebrate the birth of our nation.
In June, the House passed the Mass Ready Act- a $3.5 billion investment authorization for climate resilience, environmental protection, water infrastructure, and natural resource conservation. This legislation is the largest state investment in climate resilience in our state’s history, and I was proud to secure several amendments:
Provides $200,000 for Barnstable County to assess regional dredging needs across Cape Cod to better guide future planning and investments.
Provides $100,000 to the town of Orleans to implement projects to improve the water quality in Mill Pond.
Provides funding for the Commonwealth's dredging program which maintains 204 harbors that are essential to fishing, shipping, recreation, and more than 1,300 coastal businesses, while strengthening coastal resilience through reuse of dredged material.
I filed these additional ammendments, which while not adopted, would support addressing local envrironmental challenges:

#467 – Nitrogen-Sensitive Area Protection: Would give municipalities in nitrogen-sensitive areas more flexibility to regulate fertilizer in response to local water quality challenges like harmful algae blooms and groundwater pollution.
-
#544 – Innovative & Alternative Septic System Loan Eligibility: Would allow homeowners and municipalities to use the Community Septic Management Program for DEP-approved innovative and alternative septic systems, to help meet local water quality and housing goals while easing costs for homeowners.

Congratulations to Monomoy Superintendent Dr. Scott Carpenter on his well-earned retirement after more than a decade of dedicated leadership, during which he guided the successful growth of the Monomoy Regional School District and made a lasting impact on students, educators, and the Chatham and Harwich Communities.
Diane Langlois, the longest serving employee in the town of Chatham, has retired after 38 years with the town. Thank you, Diane, for your dedicated service and lasting contributions to our community. Read more about Diane's career here.
I was honored to nominate Chatham resident and former Select Board member Shareen Davis as a 2026 Commonwealth Heroine in recognition of her extraordinary service and lasting contributions to the Town of Chatham and our fishing community. Congratulations, Shareen, on this well-deserved honor!
Congratulations to Lieutenant Scott Tyldesley on his retirement after 20 years of dedicated service to the Harwich Fire Department, where his leadership, commitment, and contributions to the department's dive and marine operations have left a lasting legacy. Wishing him all the best in this next chapter.

Joint Committee on Tourism and Cultural Development tour of Plymouth
The Lily House in Wellfleet is one of only two community homes for dying people—also known as Omega Homes—in Massachusetts. This nonprofit provides around-the-clock, holistic end-of-life care at no cost to residents and their families, ensuring that individuals spend their final days with dignity, comfort, and compassion. Guided by its three pillars—care, community, and cultural change—the Lily House staff and volunteers support residents and their loved ones throughout the end-of-life journey and foster meaningful conversations about death and dying through educational programs, remembrance events, and community outreach.
I visited the AIDS Support Group of Cape Cod (ASGCC) and met with new CEO Morgan Clark and long time former CEO Dan Gates, to discuss their vital work serving communities across the Cape and Islands. Founded during the HIV/AIDS epidemic of the 1980s, ASGCC has expanded its mission to provide life-sustaining services for individuals living with HIV, while leading harm reduction efforts through prevention, education, and Narcan training. ASGCC has trained thousands of community members and helped save more than 2,000 lives.
Congratulations to the Town of Provincetown and community partners for the grand opening of Province Post, a new 65-unit year-round affordable housing development which will provide much needed housing for local residents, families and seniors. The site honors the history of the former VFW with a memorial recognizing the veterans and community members connected to the property. Congratulations to all who helped bring Province Post from vision to reality! |
